Mr. Stolyarov argues that indefinite human life extension will eventually triumph and that public opinion will eventually shift in its favor. All systematic trends favor such a shift, precisely because indefinite life extension will not arrive all at once but as the result of one disease or problem being eradicated at a time. Most people today already favor curing cancer and heart disease; but the attainment of indefinite longevity is made of such piecemeal cures. Thus, even those who accept or praise death in general will largely acquiesce to and even personally use treatments for specific diseases. Only the most fanatical opponents of life extension will fight treatments of individual diseases, and these people will progressively die out as a result of refusing to personally accept such treatments. This will leave the advocates of greater longevity living an extremely long time and therefore being in a prime position to affect public opinion on the matter.
